Hmmm - that might be the case (and I am NOT agreeing with you) - but even if it is the case then the warming effect of carbon dioxide is not under doubt; and if so then reducing the concentrations are what is needed to slow the warming - regardless of the cause.

If we continue to pump out CO2 then the planet will warm more - even if the original cause is man made or natural.

The need to cut emissions becomes more urgent if we did not create them in the first place - not less!

First I do not agree with docking dogs' tails. However I do not agree that only a dog with a docked tail will attack a child or person.Alsations or shepherds spring to mind normally if provoked.. I feel the onus is firmly on the owner and they should be held resposible.I have noticed all sorts of breeds will attack.Rant over. Thanx.

When faced with situation like that, remember one thing mate. Its a mantra taught to me by a wise old man (well a former housemate a few years older than me).

"Fire is the cleanser"

Top idea.
Theres no exscuse, as far as im concerned, for not implementing huge ideas like this. It probably would be a logistical nightmare and cost billions but how much do floods and droughts cost in terms of lost business, insurance and so on. And how positive for the environment, jobs and image of the nation would projects like this be?

I thought the government wanted this country to be dynamic and innovative since everyone else is better at metal bashing jobs (and now call centre jobs etc)

Why cant the govt bods start thinking long term and pull their fingers out to make massive changes making substantial differences?

Instead of spending however many billion on a new nuclear power plant, fit a small solar panel or wind turbine on every house. Or, heres an idea, send every household 1 energy saving lightbulb. Even if only a quarter of the people fit them, the power saved would be huge.

But if Bush and Blair couldn't have god on side people might think that their foreign policy is evil. Instead it is an inocent cruscade and of course we are on the goodies side. So we will win. Rejoice as maggy once said.

I think you may be doing Oxford a disservice... there is quite a large coloured community there especially with the University and the other colleges, plus the amount of tourists in the city centre makes it a truly vibrant cultural place. Perhaps, here, in a very English town, you are seeing more people that are just behaving in an English way and getting on with their lives rahter than getting all het up about being downtrodden... meh, what do i know...

As I get older I am finding myself more in awe and profound gratitude to the people that fought and died in arguably what was our last just war - the Second World War.

That was a time when our nation could have gone out of existence - and think about what that truly means.... everythign we hold dear - our language, customs and national identity would have gone - obviously along with our right to vote.

These people literally died to ensure we have a free society: why then are so many of today's kids so blase about voting?

We need to make it both easier to vote and give more of a compulsion. I am afraid though that because there are not currently any issues of life and death being decided by politicians that people get turned off...

... maybe that is the ultimate expression of freedom: the freedom to not vote when there is no alternative like the "none of the above" that I mentioned in the main article.
